Submission Guidelines
We publish poetry and lyric prose that is relevant, smart and more often than not, funny. Your poetry should be timely and accessible. We are looking for unpublished work, but we may also accept previously published work. If you are going to submit to us, please have read some of our online content or preferably pick up a copy of our magazine to understand our style. A good poet is a well read poet.
Currently our issues are themed. Please check our current call for submissions before you send us your poems.
Please submit by sending a cover letter with your writer's bio to editor@poetryisdead.ca. We prefer that you attach your poems by document, but we understand how confusing computers are for poets, so you can just copy the poems into the actual email if need be. We will laugh at your lack of computer skills, but that’s about all the judgment we will place on it.
For now, we only accept submissions online.
Please include your name, telephone number, email and home address with your submission. If you would like comments on your submission, please note that, and we will get back to you.
Poems: Please send no more than five poems. We prefer shorter length poems, so nothing epic … unless it’s totally epic.
Lyric Prose: Please do not send us anything longer than 500 words. We are looking for fast-paced work. Make it punchy. Send us no more than three pieces.
Payment: We currently pay with a free issue. If you do a reading for us, we pay you in beer, then the beer pays you with a hangover.
We retain first North American rights unless the work has already been published. We also post the poetry online. We will contact writers if we wish to work on additional projects with them. We here at Poetry Is Dead magazine have a few tricks up our sleeves and would like you to join in.
